“I always did something I was a little not ready to do. I think that’s how you grow. When there’s that moment of, ‘Wow, I’m not really sure I can do this,’ and you push through those moments, that’s when you have a breakthrough.”
— Marissa Mayer
joykwondo Exercise
Your training exercise is to learn a new skill. You can choose the difficulty level, and you can get as advanced as you like. There’s no need to master the skill, just pick up enough to impress your friends. Choose a skill (or two! or three!) that you don’t currently know the least bit how to do, and then go learn how to do it!
There are so many free resources out there now, so you really have no excuse. Watch a couple of YouTube videos. Go to a free workshop. Ask some of your friends to teach you something cool that they’re really into. Knitting, card tricks, yo-yo, guitar, painting, tennis, photography, harmonica, juggling….. pick anything that you’ve never imagined yourself knowing how to do.
In the comments section, share what new skill you decided to pick up, and also tell how you feel about having acquired this new random skill. If you’re up for it, post the url to a picture or video of yourself learning the new skill of your choice. Don’t worry, we totally won’t judge. We’re just as excited about this as you are!
Remember to keep a copy of your work for yourself. It’ll be fun to look back on in the future and celebrate how awesome you are. Also, don’t forget to write your Joy Journal entry for the day!
